Stuff to do in the ‘Burgh
We love Pittsburgh. I was born there. It has the Steelers AND the Penguins. We’re both so excited to be getting married in one of our favorite cites.
Since Matt and I are lucky to have friends spread out all over the world, many of you have never been to the Iron City and some of you might be interested in checking out some of Pittsburgh’s most Pittsburghy offerings. Who better to ask for tips than my bridesmaid and cousin Annie, lifelong resident and local It Girl?
Here are her tips:
- There’s Primanti Brothers. They can go to the original place in the Strip District, however, there is one much closer in Cranberry off of Rt. 19. [They put fries and cole slaw ON their sandwiches. A definite must-eat. -J]
- Strip District: Great place for lots of different food stores from different cultures. Mom, Ginny, Gary, and I love this place. Great deals. Also they have a huge fish market… Wholey’s Fish Market… Sushi, made right in front of you! So that place is for the adventurous.
- Station Square: Great for the incline. Also, the place has great restaurants and bars and a few clubs.
- South Side: Party zone! This is where Carson Street is (you’ve probably heard of it). Main stretch has tons of bars, clubs, restaurants and funky stores. At the one end you have South Side Works. They have awesome restaurants and shops.
- Waterfront (W. Homestead): Great place for more food, shops, etc. However, this place will be about 50-60 mins away from Cranberry.
- North Side: Home of the Steelers and Pirates! This area includes both stadium and ball park. Surrounding this area are Jerome Bettis’ bar/restaurant and some other cool pubs!
- Ducky Tours: Mom has always wanted to do this. The tour is in a bus/boat. It drives around Pittsburgh then gives a tour in the water. So you’ll definitely see the Point, which is very nice, and the stadium and park from the river. [Anyone interested in trying to do this Sunday morning? -J]
- Carnegie Science Center (I believe on the North Shore): Great place to be a kid and enjoy the cool stuff about science.
- Carnegie Museum: A great place to visit! They have a new and supposedly awesome dinosaur exhibit. Plus you get to see all the old buildings in the surrounding area. (Cathedral of Learning, Soldier’s building, Heinz Chapel).
- Close to Carnegie Museum: The Phipps Conservatory! Beautiful place with cool plants.
Hope this helps! I think I covered all age groups. And of course, in Cranberry, there are tons of shops and restaurants! Let me know if you have any questions.
Love,
Annie
I have one more addition – Kennywood Park. We love this place – classic coasters with a carnival feel, easy to do in a day. We even talked about getting married there but they don’t do private events and we didn’t want to have to share. You guys will be busy on Saturday what with the wedding and all, but if you don’t drink too much champagne you might want to consider a Sunday visit.
And of course, if you have any questions feel free to click “Contact Us” and I will pass that buck right onto Annie.
